In the packed “Rose Theater” - part of the renowned “Jazz at Lincoln Center” complex - two remarkable concerts were held on November 7 and 8 under the title “Cyro Baptista at 75: A Banquet for the Spirits”, celebrating the 75th birthday of the legendary Brazilian percussionist Cyro Baptista.
This event brought together an exceptional lineup of world-class musicians, featuring a standout performance by guitarist Trey Anastasio, who delivered several classics from his band Phish as well as rare gems from the Trey Anastasio Band (TAB).
Equally memorable were the performances of Sofija Knežević, Serbia’s internationally acclaimed jazz artist.
Known for her refined blend of jazz, improvisation, and vocal virtuosity, Sofija was part of an exclusive ensemble that created a rare and electrifying energy on stage. Her performance added subtlety, warmth, and a distinctive vocal texture to the evening’s musical narrative, reaffirming her status as one of the most authentic contemporary jazz voices on the global scene.
“To be part of these concerts - sharing the stage with artists I deeply admire, like Cyro, Trey, and Cassandra Wilson, and performing at Jazz at Lincoln Center - was pure inspiration”, says Sofija Knežević, “Cyro Baptista is an artist whose freedom and joy in making music are endlessly inspiring. These nights were celebrations of creativity, improvisation, and togetherness - everything that makes music magical”.
The audience responded with standing ovations for all the performers, while critics and media praised the richness of musical dialogue and the diversity of styles that came together in an unforgettable experience.
Sofija Knežević’s participation in this event further confirms her growing international influence and recognition - not only as a vocalist but as an artist who bridges cultures, traditions, and contemporary directions in jazz expression.
