Ten musicians united by the idea of spiritual togetherness through free improvisation will perform on Thursday, October 1, from 8:30 PM, in the Cirkobalkana tent in the courtyard of the Ciglana — Klub Ljubitelja Teške Industrije (Slanački put 26, Belgrade).

Muzika iz unutrašnjosti (“Music from Within”) is an idea, a musical ensemble, an event and a movement that has been developing on the Balkan free and improvised music scene for the past four years. It grew out of a need shared by a group of musicians and collaborators to find a way of creating a sense of spiritual unity by stepping outside the conventional frameworks of music.

Over the past four years, Muzika iz unutrašnjosti has evolved from its initial duo and trio formats, gradually bringing together an ever-growing circle of musicians from the Balkan and international free and improvised music scenes.

On Thursday, October 1, the project will present its largest line-up to date, bringing ten musicians together on stage in what might loosely be described as a Big Band. There has been some buzz around this particular concert — something Branislav Radojković and the people behind Muzika iz unutrašnjosti say they have no particular interest in. As Radojković puts it:

“We have no objective idea of what kind of buzz surrounds the events we put on, and we don’t really care about it either. For four full years, since Bratislav Radovanović and I started Muzika iz unutrašnjosti, we have been patiently building this story with a lot of love. From the initial duo and trio formats, we have now reached the point where there will be ten musicians on stage — a Big Band, so to speak. The people who gravitate towards this idea are established musicians from the international improvised and free jazz scene. Most of them have already performed at the renowned Ring Ring Festival, but this is a special opportunity for us to come together and create a sense of spiritual unity.”

For this special occasion, the musicians will come together in what the organizers describe as their own form of “organized disorganization”:
