The legendary Australian band The Necks — Chris Abrahams (piano), Tony Buck (drums) and Lloyd Swanton (double bass) — will perform for the fifth time in Belgrade on Sunday, 20 September, at Teatar 78 (Resavska 78), starting at 8 p.m. The trio has released more than 20 albums.
This unconventional jazz trio has been active since 1987 and is known for its innovative, unexpected improvisations and exceptionally precise playing.
Their live performances, always unique and unrepeatable, bring together a blend of different subgenres and influences from numerous areas of popular music. As a result, reviews of their original work feature a remarkably wide range of genre descriptions.
The band has a strong following in Serbia, having consistently played to packed venues whenever they have performed in Belgrade. Their first appearance in the country was at the “Ring Ring Festival” in 2009.
One devoted fan of the band wrote:
“The Necks are not so much a band as some kind of portal into another universe. I’ve seen them live at least six times, and each time I’ve felt slightly exhausted and disoriented by the end of the performance. It’s possible Yuri Gagarin felt something similar when he landed back on Earth. I’ve tried writing about them before, but it never amounted to anything, so I’m not going to do that anymore. I’ll just say they were fucking amazing!”
Perhaps the greatest compliment they can receive is the fact that no band has even attempted to imitate their sound — where would anyone even begin?
The concert is organized by Bad Music For Bad People.
Tickets cost RSD 5,000 in advance and RSD 6,000 on the day of the concert. Advance tickets are available from Tickets.rs, Bilet.rs, Pub Brod and Čumić Chillton.
