Legendary British musician Hugh Cornwell, former frontman of the iconic band The Stranglers, will perform in Belgrade on April 26, 2026 at Zappa Baza, organized by Long Play.
Cornwell returns to the Serbian capital after 13 years, following his notable appearance at the Long Night festival. As the leader of The Stranglers, he was the author of most of their most significant songs, released across ten studio albums.
The debut album “Rattus Norvegicus” (1977), featuring tracks such as “Peaches” and “(Get A) Grip (On Yourself)”, as well as releases “No More Heroes”, “Black and White”, “The Raven” and “The Gospel According to the Meninblack” (which Cornwell highlights), established his status as one of the most distinctive authors on the British music scene.
His lyrics for the song “Golden Brown” from the album “La Folie” represent an example of layered and evocative songwriting, while the track reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. After the album “10”, Cornwell left the band and began a successful solo career.
His first solo step dates back to 1979, in collaboration with drummer Robert Williams on the album “Nosferatu”. His first official solo album “Wolf” was well received, particularly in the United States, followed by a number of notable releases.
The album “This Time It’s Personal” (2016), recorded with poet John Cooper Clarke, received critical acclaim, as did later albums “Monster” (2018) and “Moments of Madness” (2022), often highlighted as one of the most significant works of his career.
