“Days of Gergina” Set to Begin in Negotin: A Vibrant Prelude to the 17th Vlach Music Festival

Negotin will host the cultural event “Dani Gergine” (Days of Gergina) from April 6 to 11, serving as the official pre-festival program leading up to the 17th International Vlach Music Festival “Gergina”, scheduled for April 13 and 14, 2026.

Through a rich and diverse lineup – featuring exhibitions, book promotions, film screenings, and concerts – this year’s edition once again positions the “Days of Gergina” as a central celebration of Vlach heritage, tradition, and artistic expression.

The program opens on Monday, April 6 at 7 p.m. with an exhibition of traditional costumes from Jabukovac, drawn from the private collection of the Klisurić family.

Hosted at the Fine Arts Gallery of the Negotin Cultural Center, the exhibition offers a rare glimpse into the intricate craftsmanship and symbolic richness of traditional attire from the region.

On Tuesday, April 7 at 7 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to view the exhibition “Homolje” by Radiša Trailović. The following day, April 8 at 6 p.m., a book promotion will be held for “Susret sa onostranim – kazivanje Vlaha sa severoistoka Srbije” (Encounter with the Otherworld – Testimonies of the Vlachs from Northeastern Serbia), followed at 7 p.m. by the presentation of “Hoću da znam” (I Want to Know) by author Ljubinka Dimitrijević from Mosna, also at the Cultural Center gallery.

On Thursday, April 9, the program moves to the village of Mokranje, where a CD featuring Vlach traditional dances will be presented at 7 p.m. in the local tourist park. A day later, on April 10 at 7 p.m., the promotional hall of the Negotin Library will host a screening of the ethnological film “Zimski običaj u Brestovcu” (Winter Ritual in Brestovac) by Biljana Andrejić.

The event will conclude on Saturday, April 11, with a presentation of a CD of Vlach dances from Slatina, starting at 7 p.m. in the village of Slatina.

“Days of Gergina” seamlessly lead into the main festival program. On Easter Monday, April 13 at 7 p.m., the competition evening will showcase emerging vocal and instrumental talents from Serbia and the region, accompanied by the orchestra of Boban Pecić, with special guests – the youth ensemble of the “Stol” Cultural and Artistic Society from Bučje.

The festival culminates on Easter Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m., with a revue night featuring renowned performers of Vlach music from across the region, accompanied by an orchestra led by Slobodan Pecić.

This year’s festival is dedicated to the legendary Vlach singer Branko Olar from the village of Slatina near Bor, reaffirming “Gergina’s” commitment to preserving the legacy of the most prominent figures of Eastern Serbia’s rich musical heritage.
