From 11 to 14 June 2026, the town of Boljevac will become a vibrant centre for the preservation of tradition and folk creativity through the festival “Crnorečje u pesmi i igri” (Crnorečje in song and dance). The event brings together numerous traditional folk groups from Serbia and the wider region, as well as guests from Montenegro, North Macedonia, and other neighbouring areas.

The 55th “Crnorečje u pesmi i igri” festival will open on Thursday, 11 June, with the traditional children's costume parade, where the youngest participants will have an opportunity to showcase their creativity.

Friday, 12 June, will be dedicated to brass bands competing in a preliminary contest for the prestigious opportunity to perform at the renowned “Guča Trumpet Festival”.

The festival's main day will be Saturday, 13 June, when traditional singing groups and folk ensembles will perform in the Vrtić Town Park, accompanied by a rich programme of activities for visitors of all ages.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, 14 June, with a competition of frula players, with the best performers earning a place at the “Prislonica Gathering of Frula Players of Serbia”. The evening programme will feature choreographed folk dance performances and the traditional lighting of the “privjeg”, reviving old customs associated with gathering around the fire.

The “Crnorečje u pesmi i igri” Festival represents a unique opportunity to preserve and promote folk traditions and cultural heritage. Once again, Boljevac confirms its role as both host and guardian of the spiritual and cultural values of eastern Serbia.

The festival is organised by the Boljevac Cultural and Educational Centre, in cooperation with the Boljevac Tourist Organisation, the preschool institution “Naša Radost”, the Sports Centre, and the Boljevac Public Library. The event is held under the patronage of the Municipality of Boljevac.
