The album „Veština senčenja“ by Vladimir Nikić radiates artistic maturity – the kind that grows out of experience, self-awareness, and inner balance. This is music that does not strive to display virtuosity or prove technical superiority; instead, it seeks harmony between form and content, between reflection and spontaneity. On „Veština senčenja“, Nikić presents eight original instrumental compositions, signing both as composer and performer, appearing on bass guitar and accordion. He brings together a group of seasoned musicians to shape a carefully crafted yet inspired and vibrant sonic landscape. Rather than attempting to push stylistic boundaries, the album deepens established musical languages and makes them personal. From „Ornament,” rooted in the spirit of traditional dances from southeastern Serbia, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria, through the neo-kafana rhapsody „Sedam sunaca,” to the chamber-like pulsation inspired by the čalgija tradition in „Vrt,” „Omorina,” and the title track, the album moves within recognizable yet never predictable stylistic frameworks. In „Blaženi,” „Izmirna,” and „Masanke,” elements of ethno-jazz emerge, intertwining Balkan and Oriental heritage with a contemporary sensibility. This musical language will resonate particularly with listeners of world music grounded in the traditions of the Balkans and the East. The album’s freshness does not rely on surface-level effect, but on an authentic atmosphere and a deeply personal spiritual dimension. Both the titles and the music itself suggest encounters with Christian, Muslim, and Buddhist spiritual horizons, as well as with mysticism, history, and literature. The soundscapes are ambient and meditative, transparent and restrained; light in texture yet rich in meaning, unfolding within a subtle dynamic range from mezzo-piano to mezzo-forte. Everything is realized with refined taste and a strong sense of proportion. The instrumentation varies from solo accordion (Vladimir Nikić) to diverse chamber configurations featuring kaval (Aleksandar Petrović), clarinet (Milan Rajković), percussion (Goran Milošević), lute (Darko Karajić), and piano (Veljko Nikolić). A particularly notable aspect is the thoughtful blending of acoustic and traditional instruments with bass guitar (Nikić) and synthesizer (Ivan Aleksijević), creating a delicate dialogue between tradition and contemporary sound. „Veština senčenja” invites attentive listening. Experienced in expression, thoughtful in composition, and discreet in performance, it offers the listener an opportunity to engage with music that is beautiful, restrained, and – profoundly mature.
