"Serboplov 2" is the second studio album by the Novi Sad ensemble Serboplov, known for its refined interpretations of Serbian traditional and urban folk music in chamber arrangements. The album features 16 compositions that highlight the diversity of traditional kolo dances and vocal melodies from Serbia and neighboring regions. Founded by clarinetist Bogdan Ranković, Serboplov builds its sound on a sophisticated chamber setup including violins, viola, double bass, percussion, flutes, clarinet, and soprano saxophone. Through this instrumentation, the ensemble bridges traditional folk heritage, urban music culture, and European chamber aesthetics. The album opens with the rhythmically vibrant "Kraljevo kolo", followed by pieces such as "Svilen konac", "Serbreaza", and "Đurđevka", demonstrating the richness of Serbian dance and melodic forms. The core musical form of the ensemble is the kolo – whether rural, urban, or contemporary – complemented by traditional songs and original compositions inspired by the same stylistic framework. Functioning as a musical time travel, "Serboplov 2" moves from authenticity through stylization and cross-cultural influences toward modern sound expressions. The album evokes the spirit of late 19th and early 20th-century urban salons and social gatherings, while presenting it through a contemporary artistic lens.
