The album dedicated to Olga Krasojević presents the voice of one of the most distinguished guardians of traditional singing in Serbia. Born in 1938 in the village of Gornja Crnuća near Mount Rudnik, Olga learned and absorbed the songs of her region from early childhood. Throughout her life she has sung, preserved and passed them on to younger generations. She brought the name of her native village across the country as a long-time member, and since 2005 the leader, of the vocal group Crnućanka, with whom she has been safeguarding and presenting the rich heritage of traditional singing from Šumadija for more than half a century. As Svetlana Spajić notes, “what she remembered and learned in childhood, and sang and refined for decades, Olga now passes on to younger generations with remarkable ease,” seeing the preservation of tradition as one of her most important life missions. This album grew out of a long-standing friendship and many shared moments of singing during meetings in the Vraćevšnica Monastery, Kragujevac, Krušedol and Belgrade. Each gathering was filled with song and the joy of making music together. Today, a circle of young singers gathers around Olga in Gornji Milanovac and Belgrade, where she continues to share her knowledge and experience. Speaking about her personality and artistry, Svetlana Spajić emphasizes that “seriousness and a deep understanding of tradition, professionalism, dedication, gentleness, strength, endurance and a joy for life characterize this remarkable woman and artist,” adding that Olga Krasojević is “like a song itself – uplifting, warming and carrying you along with it.”
