The album “Belenzuka pala s’ neba” presents a selection of 22 izvika songs recorded during field research conducted within a project implemented by the World Music Association of Serbia. The recordings capture the authentic vocal expression of one of the most distinctive forms of traditional singing from western Serbia, characterized by powerful, intense performance and the close interdependence of the voices. The interpretations are performed by two vocal duos – the male duet of Miloljub Šaković and Miroljub Raketić, and the female duet of Tomka Paunović and Dragica Žunić – whose voices blend into a characteristic sonic flow that continuously develops the melodic line. The repertoire includes songs of various themes, from pastoral to love songs, shaped within diverse metrical patterns characteristic of the izvika tradition. This album represents an important document of living vocal heritage and marks one phase of long-term field research dedicated to documenting and preserving the traditional musical practices of the Nova Varoš region.
