The work of the Music Information Center of Serbia (MICS) was presented at the panel “Mapping the National Music Scenes”, held in Zagreb on March 10, 2023.

The “Mapping the National Music Scenes” panel was part of the conference program of the first edition of “Substrat”, a traveling international festival of independent concert venues and clubs. “Substrat” was founded by the international project “Eenlarge Europe 2022” and had its first edition in the iconic Zagreb club “Močvara”, from March 8 to 10, 2023.

The goal of the “Substrat” event is to gather representatives of the independent music scene and give space to their problems, needs and various relevant topics. The basis of the event is the daytime conference programme, which is complemented in the evening by concerts by local and regional emerging artists.

Every year, “Substrat” will travel to a different city and thus create a platform for deep immersion in the local independent scene of the host country.

One of the panels within the conference, “Mapping the National Music Scenes”, held on March 10, brought together representatives of four music institutions related to the music promotion and export. The speakers were: Marija Vitas (Serbia/MICS), Mirko Burazer (Croatia/We Move Music Croatia), Primož Kristan (Slovenia/SIGIC) and moderator Radek Pavlovič (Czech Republic/SoundCzech).

In a lively discussion, a lot of interesting and useful information was presented about local music scenes, mapping processes, the structure and working methods of the mentioned institutions, the importance and purpose of music information centres and music export offices.
