Is there a better place than WOMEX (The World Music Expo) for the premier presentation abroad of the Music Information Centre of Serbia (MICS)? That’s exactly what happened in colorful Lisbon, from October 19 to 23. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, our country had a stand for the eighth time, in a wonderful environment, next to the stands of Slovenia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary, of the “MOST – The Bridge For Balkan Music” project (one of the partners is our EXIT festival)…
The bearer of the specific project of representing Serbia at WOMEX is the World Music Association of Serbia, but considering that the MICS association has recently been “under its roof”, the story of MICS has been also marketed to the foreign cultural public.
The interest of visitors to our stand in the activities of MICS was significant. Always in the mood for communication, Marija Vitas contributed the most to all interested people, not only from Europe, becoming familiar with the plans for MICS to become the leading informative guide for roots, world, jazz, classical and new music from Serbia, with a launched Internet portal and networking opportunities with related organizations.
Oliver Đorđević presented a special MICS project called “Living Heritage” which brings together four bards of our traditional music. He also spoke with Primož Kristan, the general secretary of the Slovenian Music Information Center (SIGIC), about the idea of a joint music project at the beginning of next year that would bring together other European partners.
Bojan Đorđević also introduced his numerous friends and associates from Europe (producers, promoters) to MICS’s perspectives and openness to cooperation.
We emphasize that the Serbian stand was a gathering place for numerous representatives of the music sector from the region, where experiences, ideas and plans were exchanged. The conclusion is the following: the potential of the scene is big and should be used, networking is necessary for better visibility and joint projects are an excellent solution for the development and strengthening of the sector.
The Serbian team at this year’s WOMEX is very satisfied with the contacts and prospects for the Music Information Centre of Serbia.
